As WordPress is editable by the end user, some changes to the original design may occur once the website has been turned over to the client.

The Canyon River Grill
A remarkable restaurant in a remarkable location, featuring three-time James Beard Finalist for Best Chef Northwest, Executive Chef Kevin Davis at its helm.
I was given free rein with the development of the new website for the grill. The design was mine, I wrote all the copy and took all the photos for the site with the exception of those in the blog.
In addition to the grill, also included is a page with my take on the incredible Canyon River Ranch Lodge. You can see it at this link, Where to Stay, or in the grill's navigation.
Radiator Whiskey
Radiator Whiskey is another remarkable restaurant in another remarkable location, Pike Place Market.
As mobile accounts for almost 60 percent of all web traffic, it had to be taken into consideration, especially in one particular way. There is a wonderfully large selection of spirits that changes so frequently that it needs to be edited in house.
Logically, mobile would account for the most views of the list with most views occurring while their guests are in the the establishment.
The page could have been set up with anchors leading to the specific beverages of interest, but in deference to those making the onsite changes, it was created as a simple, easily scrollable text block with very clear, contrasting headings.
By doing so, it significantly reduced the chance of accidental errors, such as deleting an anchor, and others, causing display problems that would require greater end user skill. It also has the benefit of acting as a sales aid by placing all available selections in front of the guests.
The result is that the page, when viewed on a notebook or desktop monitor, can't be called elegant. But then, that's mostly irrelevant given the list will be viewed by a significantly larger margin on mobile devices.
Functionality was key. By requiring only a modicum of word processing knowledge it gives the end user more time to do their jobs. So yes, this time it's function over form.

That aside, the site was rebuilt when Covid hit as a way of adapting to the the imposed mandates. For the duration of the pandemic, they became, like so many others, carryout only. Orders were to be placed only by phone.
That meant that the design of the site should place its primary emphasis on mobile viewing.
Since there was some initial confusion due to multiple locations, several additional changes were made to make the ordering process as simple as possible.

Located on the shore of South Lake Union, The White Swan Public House is a great place for drinks and food, indoors and out, the year round.

The Clam is a seasonal, sister restaurant to The White Swan Public House and shares its location on South Lake Union.
It's basically a clam shack, albeit an incredible one with a considerably broader menu. As it's seasonal ("Weather permitting") and takeout only, the site was designed with that in mind. It's chalkboard background and chalk-like menu font gives it something of a "pop-up" kind of feel.
The Clam also has some historical significance for its owner, former fishmonger and owner, Dan Bugge. His family's (interesting) history in the clamming business goes back well over 100 years. You can read about that history on the site.

This site is a gallery site showcasing the unique and beautiful work of woodturner Roger Dunn.
If you're looking for an outstanding artistic gift for a very special person or simply a piece for yourself, you really need to visit his site to see his work.

He is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and kidney disease and is the founding editor of Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, one of the main textbooks on kidney disease.
While I was building his website, I was amazed by the lifetime of accomplishments of this exceptional physician.
